Searching for a new job is not without its challenges in any industry; the process can be time consuming and difficult to navigate. In a competitive job market, jobseekers must be dedicated to securing their next role, committing time and considerable effort in order to succeed.   

 

Below we take a look at key insights into searching for an automotive job in 2019-20.

  • 54.8% of automotive professionals spend time ‘every day’ when searching for a new job
  • 36.9% of automotive professionals spend time ‘once or twice a week’ when searching for a new job
  • 6% of automotive professionals spend time ‘once or twice a month’ when searching for a new job

  • 14.6% of automotive professionals ‘strongly agree’ that searching for a job is more difficult than it needs to be 
  • 23.8% of automotive professionals ‘strongly agree’ that writing a CV is time consuming and ‘puts them off applying’ for jobs
  • 12% of automotive professionals ‘strongly agree’ genderless CVs should become the industry norm

Based on an InAutomotive survey of 84 automotive professionals.

  • 93.9% of automotive professionals are searching for a job throughout 2020
  • 77.7% of automotive professionals are searching for a job in January 2020
  • 53% of automotive professionals updated their CV in January 2020, ready to apply for new vacancies
  • 27.1% of automotive professionals cited they were ‘extremely unhappy’ in their current role

  • 10.8% of automotive professionals have cancelled a job interview 
  • 6.8% of those automotive professionals cancelled due to a poor reputation of the employer
  • 43.8% of those automotive professionals cancelled as they were offered a job elsewhere 
  • 23.3% of those automotive professionals cancelled as they feared they were not right for the role
  • 26% of those automotive professionals cancelled as the employer took too long to arrange the interview
