Covid-19 has wreaked havoc on employment within multiple sectors already and with government support schemes due to end next week, a fresh wave of job cuts is expected.

But what is happening in the automotive sector?

The automotive job market has seen peaks and troughs so far, with some areas flourishing. The full effects of the pandemic won’t be seen for a long time yet but coupled with the uncertainty around Brexit in 2019, the long term future of the industry, and those employed within the sector, is under threat.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) warned the government back in June that one in six jobs were at risk of redundancy without help in restarting production.
